Abstract

Efforts to improve the quality of education encourage the government to develop the 2013 Curriculum. The curriculum is implemented in stages, but in 2014 the implementation experienced a moratorium. The 2013 curriculum with the 5 M scientific approach was considered difficult and had no impact on learning. This study aims to determine the differences in critical thinking skills using conventional methods and scientific approaches. The study was carried out on 12 Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Madrasah Ibnidaiyah Teacher Education students. Technique of collecting data with tests. Material used is ecology and pollution. This study uses the design of the one group pretest posttest. Research begins with conventional learning. At the end of the lesson a test of critical thinking skills is given. Next, the researcher used the scientific approach in the same class, then at the end of the study a critical thinking test was conducted with the same problem. Data were analyzed by paired samples t test. The results showed that there were significant differences in critical thinking skills (1%) between learning using conventional methods and scientific approaches. This approach is recommended in learning to improve critical thinking skills.
