Abstract

Kuntowijoyo’s concept on prophetic literature is based on three fundamental ideas; humanization, liberation and trancendence. Indonesian literary record has misunderstood the essence of prophetic literature. Since 1980s, the term ”prophetic” has been the main idea, discussion and motive of creation among the authors, scholars and literature enthusiasts in Indonesia. In this context, Abdul Hadi WM is considered as a propheticism enthusiast. Nevertheless, Abdul Hadi’s paradigm on prophetic literature tends to resemble trancendental literature and makes it difficult to distinguish it from religious literature with sufism style which has been previously emerged. This study aims to re-elaborate and account the concept of prophetic in literature based on Kuntowijoyo’s concept. Tracing prophetic ideas in Kuntowijoyo’s works is done, especially in his stories. To sum up, this study attempts to find the relation between prophetic ideas (in literature) with neo-sufism movement that emerged in the sphere of tasawuf. It is essential to explain these improvements, as the attempst to seek God in Modern Era has transformed the approach into more relevent way.
