Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has a positive impact on the environment, especially the air. Surabaya is a city affected by Covid-19 and has a fairly high level of air pollution. The study’s objective determines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on air quality in Surabaya through community responses and literature reviews, as well as producing applicative examples in maintaining air quality after a pandemic. The study used a quantitative approach with the Covid-19 pandemic as an independent variable, and air quality in Surabaya became the dependent variable. Data collection was carried out using instruments in the form of questionnaires and in-depth interviews with respondents. The collected data will be scored and analyzed using the SPSS application with a simple linear regression test to determine the relationship between variables. The analysis results show a significance value of <0.05, which means a relationship between the Covid-19 pandemic and air quality in Surabaya. 75% of 44 respondents spread across 31 sub-districts in Surabaya agree that there was a difference in air quality in Surabaya after the pandemic. ISPU data in Surabaya as of 6th June 2020 is number 21, which means Good. The improvement of air quality must be maintained by the community using SWOT planning; an applicative model can be formed, such as planting trees, using public transportation, and not burning garbage.
